We've all experienced hearing our stomach growling unexpectedly and realizing at that moment that several hours have passed since our last meal. The fast pace and obligations of daily life can make us forget to eat, causing our body to start sending "signals" that it's time to grab a bite.
As a biological process, hunger occurs when the brain "notifies" the stomach that the body needs food and energy. On a daily basis, we require a specific number of calories, as well as minerals, vitamins, proteins, fats, water, carbohydrates, and fiber, to ensure the smooth functioning of every organ and system in the body. When we do not receive enough of these elements, the brain sends signals of hunger.
