The nutrients of avocados

Nutrients

They contain more fibre than other fruits, magnesium, potassium, glutathione (a phytochemical that has antioxidant properties), B vitamins, vitamin E, vitamin K, zinc and iron. 100 grams yield 160 calories.

They protect the heart

They are rich in monounsaturated fats and omega-3 fatty acids, two types of "good" fats, which have cardioprotective properties. New studies also suggest that these fruits may help the body absorb and use valuable nutrients, such as carotenoids.

They help with anti-ageing and good vision

As the American Dietetic Association explains, carotenoids are active antioxidants that protect our bodies from free radicals and help us gain healthy vision.

They protect against cancer

A recent study showed that avocados, when added to salads and sauces, act as an absorption enhancer for carotenoids, which in turn help protect against cancer.

They keep the skin healthy

They also make an important contribution to cosmetology. As they are rich in vitamins A, B, O and E, they have moisturizing and healing properties for the skin. Avocado oil is used in aromatherapy as a carrier for dissolving essential oils, but also as a basic vegetable oil for massage.

Also, when avocado oil is applied to the skin, it acts as a filter for sunlight, is hypoallergenic and is similar to lanolin, as it too has the ability to penetrate deep into the skin, acting as a moisturizer and emollient.

Bone health

It is a good source of vitamin K which has a protective role for the bones. Also, the magnesium content of avocado makes it a bone tonic.

Finally, its anti-inflammatory action through nutrients such as phytosterols, carotenoids, flavanoids, vitamins E, O, minerals such as manganese, selenium, zinc and omega-3 fatty acids makes it protective in diseases such as osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.

Hypertension

This fruit is very rich in potassium, which compensates for - and can exceed - the sodium in the body and in food, thus regulating hypertension. At the same time, the oleic acid content of avocados helps to lower blood pressure. Vitamin B9 contained in this food plays the same role.
