Boosts your metabolism
A cold shower 2-3 times a week may stimulate our metabolic rate. How does this work? Through scientific research it has been found that brown fat - which is metabolically active and expends energy, i.e. calories - is activated when exposed to low temperatures.
It puts you in a good mood
Hydrotherapy combined with cryotherapy is a holistic method that is very effective in improving the mood. According to a clinical trial carried out in the USA, a cold shower for a few minutes, 2-3 times a week, can help treat the symptoms of depression, as it acts as a mild "electric shock" for the body. In particular, it sends electrical impulses to the brain and this results in increased energy levels, alertness and mental clarity. At the same time, the body releases endorphins, also known as 'happy hormones', which results in a sense of well-being and optimism.
Improves blood circulation
A cold shower is undoubtedly much more invigorating than a hot shower, as cold water makes the body work harder to maintain its normal temperature. Thus, oxygenated blood circulates faster and more efficiently throughout the body, improving circulation overall. In fact, after intense exercise, a cold shower can also reduce inflammation levels as well as speed up recovery time.
Dos
👍 Give your body a margin of adjustment to make the transition from hot to cold shower smoother.
👍 Make sure to take deep breaths while lowering the water temperature, as they will help reduce any discomfort you may feel.
👍 Take your regular shower with your preferred water temperature and towards the end, lower the water temperature for 2-3 minutes. Slowly, try to lower the temperature more and more and for longer. Do this exercise 7-10 times until your body gets used to the refreshing sensation of cold water!
